At 11.00 on 11/11/11 residents, members of the Parish Council, church, Parkridge and many of the shops in the high street and children from the school council came together outside Dickens Heath library to remember those who gave their lives in conflicts past and present.
Shoppers and staff came out of Tesco, everyone stood quietly in Morton’s, even most of the cars and vans fell silent. There were probably sixty or seventy people in total paying their respects.
We sang Jerusalem, recited the Lords Prayer and listened to the Act of Remembrance.
Every year the number of people attending this simple service, performed by the a member of the team from Salter Street & Shirley Parish, swells in number and it is very moving to be part of it. Just one of many things that makes me proud of this village and its’ community.
