Jubilee plans come together

April 20, 2012 By DH.net

Queen's Jubilee Dickens HeathNot content with just a street party, Dickens Heath is planning to try and bring the whole community together for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee with an ambitious mini-festival on the village green and high street.

Dickens Heath residents are well and truly caught up in the Jubilee frenzy, with a full day’s events planned on the village green, for The Queens Big Lunch, on the 3rd June. As you know committee formed of volunteers from the village has been meeting regularly to ensure that the whole community will have a day to remember, with live music, dance and children’s entertainment all on the agenda.

A call has gone out to any talented villagers to take to the stage and show off their talent and a range of amateur and professional music talent of all ages and music-styles has already been booked! A balloon release is scheduled to close the festivities at 8pm courtesy of Perfect Party.

Mum of two Beth Hodgetts, who is chairing the committee, said: “We’ve had fantastic support already from the Parish Council and local High Street businesses, shops and restaurants – and villagers responded to our recent survey telling us that hundreds of people are planning to come along and are looking forward to a day to remember.”

The team are now encouraging community-minded business to help fund the costs of the event through sponsorship and advertising, with everything from two metre long banners to advertisements in the event programme on offer.

They are also seeking coronation or previous jubilee memorabilia and photos (which will be returned) for a special exhibition planned for the village library and on the website (www.dickensheath.net).

Any individual with memorabilia or company/business interested in sponsorship should contact the Dickens Heath Jubilee Committee at dhjubilee@hotmail.co.uk. Sponsorship forms are being delivered to local businesses but they can also be found by clicking here.

I see they are closing Boundary lane for 4 days. Will we still be able to use Yarn lane/Clarks lane to get in and out as some of us do still have to work?

Hi Trudi…I don’t believe they are closing the road for four days. Just the afternoon I understand. Will find out exact details and come back to you.
