Parish Council election candidate Linda Bailey explains a little about herself and why she is standing for election.
“I moved to Dickens Heath (DH) 2 years ago and quickly came to enjoy and appreciate the village and its amenities.
I have spent my whole working life as a Registered Nurse. I recently retired from Marie Curie Hospice Solihull where I was a clinical nurse specialist in the community team working to support and advise people with terminal illness and their families.
This year I was a member the organising group for the Jubilee event. Despite our typical British Summer weather the support and enthusiasm of local residents was very encouraging and a great community spirit was displayed.
Through attending Dickens Heath Parish Council (DHPC) meetings over the last 12 months, I understand that their aim is to work in partnership with you, defining and developing projects to benefit your local community. DHPC is also the representing body for promoting the views and priorities of residents at the level of local government and other services.
If you elect me to the Parish Council on 20th September 2012, I will bring a wide breadth of experience of working with local communities, helping to identify their needs and concerns and representing them at statutory and local authority levels.
We have many excellent facilities here in DH but the incomplete state of the village causes me great concern. I am aware that DHPC is currently making representations to Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council about these problems. Should I be elected to DHPC I would strongly request that this topic was a regular agenda item, as from talking to my neighbours and other residents I know that they share my concerns.
You have my promise that I will be committed to working positively as a member of your enterprising DHPC and will uphold the values of local residents.”
