Official launch of the village clock – postponed

March 23, 2013 By DH.net

Coat-of-Arms-JPEG-254x300The Mayor of Solihull, our Blythe Councillor Ken Hawkins, will be performing the opening ceremony for the village clock.  However due to the snow today (23rd March) this has now been postponed. Rearranged date to follow.

Other Parish Council news…

Table Tennis Club in the Parish Rooms

The table tennis table has arrived in the Parish Rooms – a generous donation that Colebridge Table Tennis Club facilitated.  Colebridge are the largest table tennis club in the West Midlands, and they have offered to assist in setting up a club in Dickens Heath.

All interested residents are invited to a meeting in the Parish Rooms, Waterside, on Saturday March 9th 2013 at 10am – to discuss when you would like to play and how you would like the club to be run, whether you wish to have fun and a cuppa, or get better at playing table tennis with the help of coaching.

Flooding in Dickens Heath

The Parish Council is expecting to receive feedback at the end of February meeting – as to why the flooding occurred  and the procedures that need to be put in place to ensure that it doesn’t happen again.  Several senior Solihull MBC officers are due to attend to answer residents’ questions.  This information will then be made available on the Parish Council website:  www.dickensheathpc.org.uk

Youth Facility

The Parish Council recently met with Chris Barr of Solihull MBC to discuss realistic options for a youth facility in the village.  A variety of different options were discussed, for plots of land – which included both privately owned and Borough Council owned.  There is no easy solution, but the Parish Council are now very hopeful that  one of the options can be taken forward.  Solihull MBC need a little more time to begin negotiations.   As soon as we can, we will invite residents to get involved.

Solihull Local Plan

The Independent Examination of the Solihull Local Plan (which includes 3 Dickens Heath sites for proposed future development) has been taking place.  A Parish Councillor has attended several of the ‘Hearings’ sessions to again object to the inclusion of the Cleobury Lane site, which is currently Green Belt.

Parking Problems

The complaints and photos of inconsiderate parking continue to come in.  Solihull Council (SMBC) have put forward proposals that should improve the safety of the roads in the village.  This will be going out to public consultation very soon – with information distributed to all residents, as well as a display in the library.

Garden Squares Phase 2

The latest update we have in respect of the final phase of development is that negotiations with regard to a purchaser are ongoing with the administrators.  We will continue to monitor this and are in regular contact with Solihull Council.

Parish Council meetings

The Parish Council meets at 7.30pm, on the third Tuesday of every month, in the Parish Rooms, Waterside, off Rumbush Lane.  The next meeting will be on Tuesday 19th  March 2013 and then Tuesday 16th April 2013. All welcome.
