Team Spirit, a group of Dickens Heath villagers, are taking part in the Midland Monster cycling event on Sunday 19th May. They will be covering the challenging Peak District course in memory of Aoife O’Connor – the 14 year old from Dickens Heath who sadly died of a brain tumour in October 2012.
The team is made up of family, neighbours and friends of the O’Connor family and has grown from six members originally to 31, including Aoife’s parents, who are determined to raise awareness and funds so other families coping with brain tumours have all the help they need.
Team member Jo Kentish said: “The sense of community spirit this event has prompted is so inspirational and is just part of the legacy Aoife has left us all with. We are all raising money for The Brain Tumour Charity in memory of Aoife and our Just Giving link is http://www.justgiving.com/TeamSpiritCycle.”
With the total raised in Aoife’s name now topping a massive £27,000, even before Team Spirit set off on their challenge (and this weekend’s Zumbathon in Aoife, Blake and Niamh’s memories), it seems there’s no stopping the lovely villagers of Dickens Heath in their determination to make something positive come out of such a terrible loss.
Wishing Team Spirit a brilliant ride and a massive fundraising total!
