With all the comings and goings in the English Premier League you could be forgiven for not being aware of one of the biggest stories in football: the birth of Dickens Heath FC, who will be playing in the Solihull and District Oakbourne League as of next season.
The team was setup by Mike McCarthy who used social media to build a squad of like-minded individuals into, what he hopes will be a well-oiled footballing machine to rival the best teams in Europe (or at least the best teams in Solihull).
The team will be playing their home games at Solihull Municipal Club on Brick Kiln Lane in Shirley and they have managed to secure Comfy Homes (www.comfyhomes.co.uk) as their kit sponsor. The season kicks off at the beginning of September, with a number of friendlies being played in July and August.
Mike has also managed to secure a donation from Dickens Heath Parish Council towards the cost of playing at Solihull Municipal Club for the next two seasons; however, the team would welcome further support from local businesses and anyone else who feels they could contribute to the running of the football club.
More details about how to get involved or for further information about the club and players you can visit their website at www.dickensheathfc.co.uk or on Facebook by going to www.facebook.com/DickensHeathFc.
The team is hoping for an enjoyable and successful upcoming season and would welcome any supporters who would like to come and see them in action.
