Solihull is set to become a winter wonderland this festive season, with fun for all the family and some seasonal surprises too.
The festive spirit gets underway this Saturday (23rd November) with the spectacular Christmas Lights switch on in Mell Square. Hosted by Free Radio’s Foxy and Guiliano, there will be a giant screen and speakers around Mell Square broadcasting an afternoon of entertainment including a visit from The CBeebies Octonauts and someone who looks and sounds suspiciously like Justin Timberlake!
Father Christmas will make his traditional entrance as night falls accompanied by real reindeer, the Shirley Pipe Band and plenty of other seasonal favourites, as the countdown gets underway to the magical switch-on moment.
There will be roaming entertainment throughout the town centre all day – and every Saturday in December until 21st December – including the Ice Queen and her acrobatic elves, Jack Frost, balloon modelling and a magical igloo – as well as choirs and musicians performing in Touchwood, John Lewis and Mell Square. A special request has even been put in for some seasonal snow to fall, to add a little festive magic to the day.
On 29th November, the all-new Solihull Christmas Market opens with more than 40 stunning, traditional stalls offering a wonderful range of gifts including candles, jewellery, hand-made gifts, decorations, clothing, toys and foods from around the world. An outdoor bar will tantalise the taste buds with the delicious aroma of Gluhwein and there will be plenty of traditional foods to sample in the square too.
The market will be open every day until Sunday 22nd December as follows
- Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday: 10am-8pm
- Thursday, Friday and Saturday: 10am-9pm
- Sunday: 10am-5pm
