On Wednesday March 5th 2014 – Richard Holt, Chairman of Dickens Heath Parish Council, was delighted to present a cheque for £325 to the new Youth Club to further enhance their activities.
Commenting on the youth club Richard stated, “It’s important for young people to realise they are at the heart of our community, life isn’t just about work – it’s about enjoying themselves and having a childhood. It has been great to see this take off with good attendances – they really enjoy the activities – table tennis, pool, and computer games. There is a real sense of fun and camaraderie which is good to encourage for the village”
Dickens Heath Parish Council established the youth club in January at their Parish Rooms – to encourage the young people of Dickens Heath to get together; this is funded by the Parish Council in partnership with the Churches of Shirley Parish and Dickens Heath Church who have arranged for a professional youth worker and a number of volunteers to run the club on a Wednesday night from 6.30pm for years 7-9.
Commenting further Richard said, “ The Parish Council is working with Solihull MBC to establish more youth facilities for the 11-18 age group in Dickens Heath, we are working hard to see some progress on this, it is important that we create more space for our young people and the Parish Council is committed to ensuring that this is delivered.”
