Solihull Pop Chorus was born in Dickens Heath. The adult choir continues to rehearse in the village school on Monday evenings, the juniors rehearse in the Parish Rooms and they are always to be found belting out their numbers at Festival on the Green. Now a 260-strong choir, with groups in Balsall Common and central Solihull too, Pop Chorus remains packed full of adults and children who live in Dickens Heath and currently boasts more than 100 members who live in the village.
On 16 July they are performing at the prestigious Town Hall in Birmingham. Almost sold out, Pop Chorus director Anya Small has secured a small number of discounted tickets for Dickens Heath residents who fancy a night out packed full of entertaining, uplifting and foot-tapping favourites sung by their friends and neighbours. Tickets for DH residents are just £13.50, instead of £16.50 at the Town Hall Box Office.
The choir will perform songs from across the last fifty years of pop music including tracks by the Beach Boys, Bob Marley, Coldplay, the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Gary Barlow, The Beatles and Rachel Platten, as well as James Bond and Les Misérables medleys and a unique a capella tribute to George Michael.
The choir will also perform their charity single, a cover of Wings by Birdy, which was recorded at Abbey Road studios in London. The trackis raising money for West Midlands cancer charity, Help Harry Help Others, in memory of Birmingham schoolboy Harry Moseley. The choir will perform the song, accompanied on a beautiful baby grand piano by pianist Craig Smith, who arranged the piece with Anya.
The adults and children of the choir have been raising funds for Help Harry Help Others (HHHO) for the last six months through iTunes download sales of their charity single, Wings; sales of a three-disc CD recorded at Abbey Road studios, and events such as bake sales during rehearsals, HHHO bracelet-making, theatre trips and quiz nights.
Why not come along for a great night out on 16 July, support some familiar faces and help them to raise even more money? You never know – you might find yourself on stage for their 2018 show. It’s happened many times before!
To buy a discounted ticket, email Anya Small at firstname.lastname@example.org quoting ‘DH Ticket Offer’ or contact a choir member that you know in the village and they will pass your details to Anya.
